Home Ministry approved projects worth over Rs 4,600 crore for disaster
management.
¨ A high-level committee chaired by Home
Minister Amit Shah approved disaster management projects worth over ₹4,645
crore.
¨ The projects are meant to strengthen disaster
resilience in nine states, including Assam, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and
Rajasthan.
¨ Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and
Andhra Pradesh were also among the states that will benefit.
¨ For Assam, a ₹692 crore project was approved
for the restoration and rejuvenation of wetlands.
¨ This initiative aims to increase flood
storage, protect aquatic life, and boost fisheries infrastructure.
¨ The high-level committee has also approved
the Urban Flood Risk Management Programme Phase-2 for eleven cities.
¨ These cities include Bhopal, Bhubhaneshwar,
Guwahati, Jaipur, Kanpur, Patna, Raipur, Trivandrum, Vishakhapatnam, Indore,
and Lucknow.
¨ The flood management programme carries an
outlay of over ₹2,444 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund.
¨ The committee also considered financial
assistance to states from both State and National Disaster Mitigation Funds.

In addition, ₹4,012 crore was released from the State Disaster
Mitigation Fund to 21 states and ₹372 crore from the national fund to nine
states.
