Ravichandran Ashwin was
confirmed by Sydney Thunder as the first male Indian cricketer to join a Big
Bash League franchise.

The veteran spinner has
signed for the 15th season of the BBL and is scheduled to join the camp in
early January.

His retirement from the
Indian Premier League in 2025 made him available for overseas leagues.

Ashwin’s international
career had ended in December 2024 during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after he
claimed 537 Test wickets.

Overall, he was credited
with 765 international wickets in 287 matches for India across formats.

In the IPL, he played 221
games for five franchises including CSK, Pune, Delhi, Punjab, and Rajasthan.

Ashwin was remembered for
his two IPL title wins with Chennai Super Kings in 2010 and 2011.

With 187 wickets in IPL,
he was ranked fifth among the all-time leading wicket-takers of the tournament.
