- NSA Ajit Doval led the Indian delegation at the 4th Annual #BIMSTEC Security Chiefs Meeting held in Naypyidaw.
- Doval met his Myanmar counterpart Admiral Moe Aung on Thursday. He also met Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing along with other BIMSTEC security chiefs.
- During the BIMSTEC meeting, Doval called upon the member countries of the group to strengthen cooperation in combating terrorism, drug trafficking, arms smuggling and organised crime.
BIMSTEC
- It is a regional multilateral organisation and its members are located in the littoral and adjacent areas of the Bay of Bengal which symbolize regional unity.
- Out of its 7 members, 5 are from South Asia, which include Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka and two – Myanmar and Thailand are from South-East Asia.
- BIMSTEC not only provides connectivity between South and Southeast Asia but also connects the ecology of the Himalayas and the Bay of Bengal.
- Its main objectives are to create an environment for rapid economic growth, accelerate social progress and promote cooperation on matters of common interest in the region.
