  • PM Modi departed for his first overseas tour of the third term to participate in the G7 conference in Italy.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 50th G7 Leaders’ Summit.
  • This is his first international visit after assuming office for the third term.
  • Italy invited India to participate in the G-7 Summit on June 14 as an outreach country.
  • Prime Minister Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni will have a bilateral meeting during the summit.
  • As the current chair of the G-7, Italy is hosting the meeting of the group of seven major advanced economies, including the European Union as well as Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
  • The summit, to be held from June 13 to 15 at the posh Borgo Egnazia resort in Italy’s Apulia region,
  • It is expected to focus on global challenges including the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Hamas conflict.
  • India has participated in ten G7 summits prior, with PM Modi making his fifth consecutive appearance.
