Maharashtra government decided to rename Ahmednagar District as Ahilya Nagar and Velha Tehsil as Rajgad.
The state cabinet of the Maharashtra government has decided to rename Ahmednagar District as Ahilya Nagar.
Ahilyanagar has been named after Ahilyabai Holkar. She was the most able ruler of Malwa province in the 18th century.
Ahilyabai was born on May 31, 1725, in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.
Velha tehsil has been renamed as Rajgad. It was the first capital of the Maratha Empire under Shivaji.
The state cabinet also approved the renaming of eight suburban railway stations in Mumbai.
Curry Road station has been renamed as Lalbaug while Sandhurst Road station will be now called Dongri.
Marine Lines renamed as Mumbadevi, Charni Road as Girgaon, Cotton Green as Kalachowki, Dockyard as Mazgaon, King’s Circle as Tirthankar Parswanath and Mumbai Central as Nana Jagannath Shankarsheth.
The construction of a sea link between Uttan (Bhayander) and Virar (Palghar) has been also approved by the state cabinet.
A new Marathi language policy has been approved by the Maharashtra cabinet. Its main aim is to make Maratha a language of knowledge acquisition and employment in the next 25 years.
The Maharashtra government will also purchase 2.5 acres of land in Srinagar for constructing a Maharashtra Bhavan.
