  • ‘Sanchi’ city of Madhya Pradesh has been established as the country’s first solar city, which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of the state Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
  • Sanchi Solar City will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 13 thousand 747 tonnes annually, which is equal to the capacity of more than 2 lakh adult trees.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target of developing a solar city in every state of the country by 2070.
  • Sanchi is a small village situated on a hill near Sanchi city in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh state, India.
  • It is situated in the central part of Madhya Pradesh on the banks of Betwa river, 46 km north-east of Bhopal and at a distance of 10 km from Besnagar and Vidisha.
  • There are many Buddhist monuments here, which date from the period between the third century BC to the twelfth century BC.
