‘Sanchi’ city of Madhya Pradesh has been established as the country’s first solar city, which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of the state Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
Sanchi Solar City will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 13 thousand 747 tonnes annually, which is equal to the capacity of more than 2 lakh adult trees.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target of developing a solar city in every state of the country by 2070.
Sanchi is a small village situated on a hill near Sanchi city in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh state, India.
It is situated in the central part of Madhya Pradesh on the banks of Betwa river, 46 km north-east of Bhopal and at a distance of 10 km from Besnagar and Vidisha.
There are many Buddhist monuments here, which date from the period between the third century BC to the twelfth century BC.
