Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on August 26 that the point where Chandrayaan-3 lander Vikram landed on the lunar surface on August 23 would be named Shiv Shakti.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also declared August 23 as National Space Day to commemorate the remarkable achievement of Chandrayaan-3 landing on the Moon.
PM Modi’s big announcement took place at ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru.
He said there was also discussion on naming the place where Chandrayaan-2 crashed in 2019, but he believed this should happen only if the next mission succeeds in soft-landing.
In 2019, the hard landing point of Chandrayaan-2 was named “Tiranga”.
