A contingent of the Indian Army has left for Mongolia to participate in the Multinational Military Exercise Khan Quest 2024. The 21st Multinational Khan Quest exercise will be held in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia from 27 July 2024 to 9 August 2024. Khan Quest is an annual multinational military exercise, co-sponsored by the US Indo-Pacific Command and conducted annually by the Mongolian Armed Forces to promote regional peace and security in the region. The aim of the Khan Quest exercise is to promote cooperation between the armies of different countries and strengthen peacekeeping capabilities. During this joint military exercise, the armies of different countries will work together and collectively share military skills and strategic capabilities. The last edition of Exercise Khan Quest was held in Mongolia from 19 June to 2 July 2023, and after its successful completion, this time also it is being organized at a place called Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia.
Exercise Khan Quest: Background and Present 21st Edition
- Exercise Khan Quest was started in the year 2003 as a bilateral military event between the US and Mongolian Armed Forces.

Objective of Exercise Khan Quest
- The main objective of Exercise Khan Quest is to prepare the Indian Armed Forces for peace missions in a multinational environment, thereby enhancing mutual coordination and military readiness in peace support operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.

- Indian Contingent: The contingent mainly comprises 40 personnel from a battalion of the Madras Regiment. Apart from this, the contingent also has members from other armies and services, including a woman officer and two women soldiers.

- The main objective of Exercise Khan Quest 2024 is to develop interoperability and share best practices in tactics, techniques and procedures for joint operations among the participating nations.

- The Indian contingent consists of 40 personnel and additional members from a battalion of the Madras Regiment.
- Around 430 participants from 23 countries, including Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Turkiye, United States and United Kingdom, are participating in Exercise Khan Quest 2024.
- The exercise will share best practices among the armed forces of the participating nations, and will include field training, combat discussions, lectures and demonstrations.
