Bhojshala complex in Madhya Pradesh is built from temple remains, says ASI survey.
As per the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) scientific survey report, the existing structure at the Bhojshala complex in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district was constructed by using remains of a temple.
As per the directive from the High Court, the ASI has conducted a scientific survey of the Bhojshala Temple-Kamal Maula Mosque complex.
The ASI has submitted its report to the Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
According to the survey report, the site was built and developed by Raja Bhoj in Dhar district.
The art and architecture of the pillars and pilasters in the colonnades show that complex was originally part of a temple.
The survey found images of Hindu deities such as Ganesha, Brahma with his consorts, Narasimha, Bhairava and other human and animal figures in the existing structure.
The inscriptions in Sanskrit and Prakrit were found at the site.
The Bhojshala complex is an 11th-century monument. As per the agreement, the puja is performed at the complex by Hindus on every Tuesday and namaz is offered every Friday.
