  • The two-day India-Indian Ocean Rim Association-IORA Cruise Tourism Conference concluded in New Delhi.
  • Officials and experts from IORA member countries including Bangladesh, Kenya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Seychelles and Tanzania attended the conference.

Indian Ocean Rim Association

  • The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) was formed as an intergovernmental body to promote regional cooperation among countries located along the Indian Ocean Rim. It was established in 1997 and India has been a founding member of IORA.
  • In 2015, IORA was granted observer status at the United Nations General Assembly and the African Union.

Current Chair of IORA

  • Member countries hold the chairmanship of IORA for two years. Currently Sri Lanka is the Chair of IORA for the period 2023-25. India will take over the chairmanship from Sri Lanka for the period 2025-27.
