  • Ramoji Film City founder and media baron Ramoji Rao passed away at the age of 87 on 8 June.
  • He was a towering figure in the field of media and his rich contributions have left an indelible mark on journalism and the film world.
  • Ramoji Rao’s Eenadu newspaper was crucial in swaying public opinion in favour of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, also known as NTR, when he created the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1982 in opposition to the Congress.
  • Apart from this, Rao had supported Naidu when the latter revolted against his father-in-law NTR in 1995, leading to a significant political upheaval in Andhra politics at the time.
  • Under Ramoji’s leadership, Eenadu became a major force in Telugu media.
  • Apart from the world-famous Ramoji Film City, Rao’s vast empire of media business also includes the Telugu daily Eenadu newspaper, ETV network of channels and film production.
  • In 2016, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award.
