Among Patar’s noteworthy accomplishments are the Padma Shri and the Sahitya Akademi Award, which he received for his work writing in the regional language.
Patar was a resident of Patar Kalan village in Jalandhar and retired as a professor of Punjabi from Punjab Agricultural University.
In 2012, he received the Padma Shri and also served as the President of the Punjab Arts Council.
