  • The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD) under the Union Ministry of Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) India on Vaccine Cold Chain Management, Digitization of Communication Plan and Capacity Building .
  • The agreement was signed by Alka Upadhyay, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Caitlin Wiesen, UNDP Resident Representative in India, in New Delhi.

Importance of MoU

  • India has a large population and livestock population with 142.86 crore people, 53.57 crore farm animals and 85.18 crore poultry population.
  • To keep these animals healthy, the government has started a vaccination program.
  • Additionally, humans who come into close contact with infected animals can become infected with various zoonotic diseases, such as bird flu and coronaviruses.
