The first delta ranking of the Aspirational Block Program (ABP) announced by NITI Aayog has been released.The rankings were announced at a virtual event at NITI Aayog.In this ranking, Tiryani block of Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district of Telangana has secured the top rank.“Kaushambi Block” of Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh has secured second position in the ABP ranking.The program launched a “Wall of Fame” showcasing the top rankers of Aspirational Block Program (ABP) and Aspirational District Program (ADP).
Delta Ranking Criteria
- The ranking of the blocks has been calculated based on the performance of the blocks and the progress achieved in the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the month of June, 2023.
- In a unique initiative, top rankers of ABP and ADP will be displayed on the Wall Fall built at NITI Aayog.
- In this exhibition, NITI Aayog will showcase the efforts and projects undertaken by the Aspirational Blocks and Districts to improve their indicators and achieve progress.
Wall of Fame display
- The program highlights Aspirational Block Programs (ABP) and Aspirational District Programs (ADP) with a view to create a developed India by the year 2047.
- Through this program the achievements of the best performing Aspirational Blocks and Aspirational Districts in the country are celebrated.
- The program also showcases the story of the social impact created by the Aspirational Blocks Program and the Aspirational Districts Program in empowering, uplifting and transforming lives.
The blocks are also divided geographically into 6 zones and ranking is given to two blocks from each zone
- Zone 1:- It includes hilly and north-eastern states as well as islands, the first and second positions were held by Amri Block, West Karbi Anglong, Assam and Ngopa Block, Saitual Mizoram.
- Zone 2:- It covers Northern Indian states, Harraiya Block, Basti, Uttar Pradesh and Virno Block, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh secured the first and second positions.
- Zone 3:- This includes southern states, Maski Block, Raichur, Karnataka and Naranur, Adilabad, Telangana were declared top rankers.
- Zone 4:- This includes the western Indian state, Sironcha and Aheri block in Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra has emerged as the winner.
- Zone 5:- This includes the Central Indian state, Tirla block of Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh and Pati block of Barwani district have become the winners.
- Zone 6:- This includes the eastern Indian states, Andar, Siwan in Bihar and Ramgarh in Dumka in Jharkhand are at the top position.Prize money awarded to winners:- Rs 1.5 crore for top rank and Rs 1 crore for second position in all regional categories.
Aspirational Block Program
- It was launched on January 7, 2023.
- The program focuses on improving governance to enhance the quality of life of citizens in the most difficult and relatively underdeveloped blocks of India.
- 500 blocks in 329 districts across 27 states and 4 union territories of India are part of this programme.
Program Strategy
- Based on convergence of plans, defining results and monitoring them on an ongoing basis.
- 40 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) have been selected to measure the progress of the block, grouped into 5 themes.
- The baseline data for the first quarter March 31, 2023 and June 30, 2023 of 500 aspirational blocks was obtained through the management information system of 11 ministries. The first delta rank is calculated based on the improvement in the first quarter.
- The chairperson of the program is Shri Suman Beri, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog.
- In addition to ABP, ADP rankings for the month of October, 2023 were also announced, in which Rayagada (Odisha) and Jamui (Bihar) secured the first and second ranks respectively.
