The National Medical Commission (NMC) will launch one nation, one registry for doctors. The National Medical Commission has prepared its complete blueprint, which will be implemented as a pilot project in the coming six months. After this, this rule will be implemented at the national level. There is a plan to provide a unique identification number (Unique ID) to all the doctors of the country by the end of 2024. Through One Nation, One Registration, every doctor will be given a unique ID. Which will, in a way, act as his identity. This ID will be linked with an IT platform of the Commission on which information about all the documents, courses, training and licenses of the concerned doctor will be available. Under this process, the ID will be issued to the doctor twice. When he takes admission in MBBS course for the first time, he will be given a temporary number and after completing his studies, he will be given a permanent number. On the other hand, those who are currently practicing will be issued a permanent ID directly.
EMRB will prepare UID
- The UID will be prepared by the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) of NMC.
- The move was announced by NMC in May 2023.
- This UID will be valid for life. Doctors will be able to update their qualifications on the portal.
Benefits of One Nation, One Registration
- There can be many doctors with one name, but now everyone’s identity will be different with the unique ID.
- Patients will also be able to know about their doctor’s education, experience, license.
- At the same time, doctors will not need to visit the concerned medical college or government department again and again for verification of their documents.
- After obtaining a unique ID, any doctor can get registered with the concerned State Medical Council for practice in any state of the country.
