Government along with Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA) celebrated Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) Day on 10th October 2023
CGMP Day was celebrated for the first time. This day is dedicated to the entire pharmaceutical industry to create awareness on cGMP guidelines.
GMP regulations set the standards required to enhance product quality.
Presently, GMP is under revision under Schedule M of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rule.
The number of pharmaceutical manufacturing units in India is around 10,500. Of these, only 2,000 have WHO GMP certification.
The proposed amendment to Schedule M of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, provides a period of six months for large companies (with a turnover of more than ₹250 crore) to implement advanced GMP standards.
On the other hand, a period of 12 months has been given for MSMEs (less than ₹250 crore) to implement advanced GMP standards.
