  • Government along with Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA) celebrated Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) Day on 10th October 2023
  • CGMP Day was celebrated for the first time. This day is dedicated to the entire pharmaceutical industry to create awareness on cGMP guidelines.
  • GMP regulations set the standards required to enhance product quality.
  • Presently, GMP is under revision under Schedule M of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rule.
  • The number of pharmaceutical manufacturing units in India is around 10,500. Of these, only 2,000 have WHO GMP certification.
  • The proposed amendment to Schedule M of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, provides a period of six months for large companies (with a turnover of more than ₹250 crore) to implement advanced GMP standards.
  • On the other hand, a period of 12 months has been given for MSMEs (less than ₹250 crore) to implement advanced GMP standards.
