Scientist N Valarmathi, who used to voice the countdown of every launch mission at Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC), Sriharikota, has passed away in Chennai.
He also gave voice to India’s successful Chandrayaan-3 mission launched on July 14.
This was his last countdown voice. Valarmathi was the director of the remote sensing RISAT-1 project in 2012.
Valaramathi was honored with the Tamil Nadu government’s Abdul Kalam Award in 2015, soon after her role as director in the RISAT-1 project.
She was part of the launch of the DS-SAR remote sensing satellite on a PSLV C56 rocket on 30 July and the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on an LVM3 rocket on 14 July.
