  • These labels signify the unique nature and exceptional qualities of these products, tracing their origins to specific regions.
  • This achievement is a result of a collaborative effort involving NABARD, the Department of Handicrafts & Handloom, and the Department of Agriculture, commencing in December 2020.
  • Hailing from the elevated landscapes of Kashmir, particularly Anantnag district, Mushqbudji Rice takes center stage as a premium aromatic short bold rice variety.
  • When cooked, this rice dazzles with a captivating fusion of flavor, aroma, and sensory properties that are truly distinct.

Geographical indication

  • The full meaning of GI is Geographical Indication. GI Tag is a symbol, which is mainly given to link a product with its region of origin.
  • GI tag describes the specialty of the product. Simply put, the GI tag tells where a particular product is produced or where it is made.
  • It is given only to those products, which are characteristic of their region, say that they are produced or made only in that region.
  • The Parliament of India implemented ‘Geographical Indications of Goods’ in the year 1999 under the Registration and Protection Act.
  • GI tag was started in 2003. In the year 2004, the first GI tag was given to Darjeeling tea of West Bengal.
